New Year's Eve 1938-9 Fire of Manson Warner Block

The burned-out remains of the Manson Warner Block, destroyed in a fire on New Year's Eve 1938-39.
The buildings from left to right are: Gower's Store, operated by Arthur and Florence Gower. Later, the store was operated by J.B. Murdock, then Morris Fyckes operated the store and post-office in the 1940s.
The burned-out Manson Warner block. This building had the Howard Manson Grocery Store and restaurant on the main floor, and the Pentecostal Hall upstairs. After the fire, the building was rebuilt, with two restaurants downstairs and apartments up and down. Manson Warner had a tin-smith shop in the middle unit. A fire started in the George Mickelright Restaurant, with the loss of two children.
The next building, over the years, housed the Standard Bank, Bank of Commerce, Stacey's Restaurant, Ev Bush's Restaurant and taxi stand, and Harrison MacIntosh's Restaurant.
The building on the right, with a tiny bit showing, was the MacGillivary's Hotel, Angie Norman MacDonald Hotel, and then the Percy and Estella Johnston home, store, and Eat Well Inn.
