The dock at Aultsville

"The Dock" at Aultsville with Stein Island in the background. This was the wharf used by travelers between Aultsville and Louisville Landing, New York. This was a popular swimming site as well.

Hydro and Seaway construction at Maple Grove. Newly completed structure for opening in dyke on the left. This opening was required for the anticipated all-Canadian seaway that never materialized

The Aultsville Grand Trunk/Canadian National Railway Station at Aultsville c. 1956. Note the patch on the roof required after a locomotive jumped the track and crashed into the station c. 1928. Allen MacMillan was the CNR agent for many years, but the last agent was Leon Piper

Home of George and Grace (O'Shaughnessy) Loucks

Top photo is the home of George and Grace (O'Shaughnessy) Loucks, located at the west end of Mille Roches, next door east of Mille Roches United Church and overlooking Bergin Lake. This house was the 120th house to be relocated into Long Sault to 10 Saunders Avenue, and was known as SL 299. The house was vacant at the time of its move to Lot 283 on March 15, 1957. It was placed on its new foundation on March 18, 1957.
Bottom photo is of the Mille Roches Arena, officially opened on February 8, 1936. The officers of the first board were: President- George A. Butzer; Vice-President- I.G. Fleming; Secretary- Floyd E. Barkley; Treasurer- Percy E. Johnston; Directors- W.S. Fleming, Douglas Easter, Joe Robertson

Dr. J.W. Messecar home

This building at 7 Frost Avenue, Long Sault, was the former Dr. J.W. Messecar home and office at Mille Roches, as well as the home of Louise McCartney. Brian McCartney, esteemed teacher and musician, has memories of life in this home, overlooking Bergin Lake, at the west end of Mille Roches beside the Mille Roches United Church. This was the 85th house moved into Long Sault, and it was identified as SL 471. This house was vacant at the time of its move from Mille Roches on October 19, 1956. Ten days later, it was placed on its new foundation on Lot 352. Following its move, this house was used as an office for the Chamber of Commerce, served as a depot for the Bank of Montreal until the Long Sault Shopping Centre was completed, and served as a school for students destined for the new St. George's Separate School on Bethune Avenue. For a period of time, until its conversion to Branch #569, Royal Canadian Legion, this dwelling served as the base for many community activities, including Bill Barker's Square Dance lessons for school children.

Home of George and Keitha (Crites) Raymond. The original house burned in 1917-18. The frame of the house was a granary. Zalmon Raymond began rebuilding the house, and it was finished in 1932 by George and Keith Raymond. There were five bedrooms, one bathroom, a living room, dining room, kitchen, and walk-in pantry - c.1955
